As part of OHE's Fuel Up to Play 60 Program's "From the Farm to the Plate" educational unit, Program Advisor Alicia Kamer invited the OHHS FFA Club to come do a presentation for grades 3-5. FFA Advisor Matt Bennett and 16 FFA members did a lesson on vegetables, dairy, and whole grains which the OHE students greatly enjoyed. Pictured in the first photo is FFA member Devin Coon discussing the importance of dairy products. In the second photo are FFA members Kayla McNeal, Jenna Spees, and Allison McGlone guiding the students in an interactive activity, and in the third photo is FFA member Kelsey Gaines, instructing the students on the importance of vegetables in their diets.
At their November 2013 meeting, the OHES Active Acorns welcomed special guest Todd Crabtree from the Seishin Ryoku Aikido School. The students enjoyed Todd and his student's presentation very much. The Active Acorns Club is made possible by funds received from the NFL's Fuel Up To Play 60 grant OHES received this school year.
The OHES Active Acorns Fitness Club recently had its first official meeting of the 2013-2014 school year. Twenty-two members are currently enrolled from grades 3-5. The club is made possible by the Fuel Up to Play 60 grant OHES again received, and members will be learning about physical fitness throughout the school year. Pictured are some of the Active Acorns demonstrating their flexibility during warm-ups.
Mrs. Kamer recently had a prize drawing for 100 Mile Club® members who have been actively participating in the walking program each week at recess. The two winners were Zachary Daft (L) and Katelyn Ratliff (R). Participation prizes will be given throughout the school year.
