Oak Hill Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), OHHS Science Committee and United Commercial Travelers of America (UCT), Council 380 participated in One Million Pillow Case Challenge for the second year.  Suggested by American Patchwork & Quilting, we accepted the challenge to help reach the goal of donating one million pillowcases to local charities. At this time 468,578 cases have been donated.  Many charities can benefit from the donation of a pillowcase and the challenge allows you the opportunity to donate and make a difference in your community.  Additional information may be obtained at www.allpeoplequilt.com.

The local groups chose to donate hand-made pillow cases and teddy bears to Serenity House, a shelter serving victims of domestic violence in Jackson and Gallia Counties.

 

In addition to the hand-made items, Oak Hill science students under the direction of instructor Tammy Nevil, donated various toiletry items for Serenity House.

 

Judy Ruth Hamilton, UCT member and FCCLA advisor, along with UCT Fraternal Secretary Ruth Ruth, organized the event.

A RESEARCH PROJECT

Steps To Complete

1. Complete Brainstorming T-Chart before conducting research

2. Visit each website on the Resources page and record important facts and information for each link.

3. Find at least 3 other valid and reliable resources on the topic and record important facts and information for each resource.

4. Conduct two forms of primary research in class by completing an experiment about listening to music and a student/teacher survey about cell phone in class.

5. Write an 8 paragraph research essay using your primary and secondary resources. This also includes a Works Cited page.

6. After finishing your research, create a Fair Terms of Use for electronic devices in the classroom that would be suitable for both teachers and students.
