2024 Buckeye Hills Career Center Adult Education Tuition Credits

For New High School Graduates!

Save up to $1,000!

Tuition credit up to $1,000 may be granted to graduates from the Oak Hill Union, Gallipolis City, Gallia County, Jackson City, Vinton County, Wellston City School Districts, Christian Life Academy, Ohio Valley Christian School, and Buckeye Hills Career Center GED graduates upon enrollment in an Adult Center program within 12 months of receiving their diploma. This offer is limited to one program per person. 

The application fee will be waived up to 12 months for current High School graduates of any Buckeye Hills Career Center programs, including Buckeye Hills Career Center satellite programs and Buckeye Hills Career Center GED graduates. This offer is limited to one registration fee per person.

*Tuition credit amounts will be pro-rated over the payment periods of the enrolled program. 

  • $1,000 - Cosmetology/Practical Nursing/Surgical Technology
  • $800 - Power Lineman w/ CDL Class A Unrestricted/Telecommunications
  • $700 - Industrial Maintenance w/ Hydraulics & Pneumatics
  • $600 - Welding
  • $300 - Heavy Equipment Operator
  • $200 - Broadband Infrastructure Training/Phlebotomy
  • $100 - Certified Nursing Assistant

Thomas Family Scholarship

2024 Gary & Portia Thomas Family Scholarship

Award: Two (2) $500 Scholarships

Gary and Portia Thomas are lifelong residents of Oak Hill.  They both graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1967.  After graduation they married and soon started a family and owned and operated several local businesses.  Gary served the students of Oak Hill as a Board of Education member for 25 years.  Portia started her career with the school district not long after starting her youngest child in Kindergarten and retired in 2016 after serving in various administrative roles.  They were both very involved in supporting Oak Hill Union Local Schools in various civic and parent support groups such as the BIG “O” Mother’s Club, Oak Hill Jaycees, Cotillion Club, Portland Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and Faith United Methodist Church.  All four of their children have gone on to acquire various college degrees in the fields of biology, education, nursing and finance. Gary and Portia have often said that their greatest accomplishments are their 4 children (Marlo- OHHS ‘87, Trevor-OHHS ‘89, Bronwyn- OHHS ‘93 and Trenton- OHHS ‘95) and 11 grandchildren(Moriah, Meagan, Brady, Paige, Bailee, Mason, Blake, Aubree, Tanner, Teegan and Marley). This scholarship is being established in honor of Gary and Portia Thomas for their years of service to Oak Hill Union Local Schools and their family to help students fulfill their dreams.

Scholarship Eligibility: Must be entering a 4-year post-secondary college/university planning to obtain degree in Business Management, Education, Nursing or Biology.

Award Type: The scholarship will be paid upon presentation of proof of enrollment as a full-time student in a post-secondary institution. This proof of enrollment must be presented to the Oak Hill Union Local School District Treasurer.

FBP Diversity Council Scholarship

2024 FBP (Fluor-BWXT Portsmouth) Diversity Council Scholarship

The Fluor-BWXT Portsmouth (FBP), Diversity Council started in 2017 to connect a diverse workforce to the business practices and the management at the Portsmouth Gaseous Division Plant and to promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) on the site and in the community. In an effort to promote a more diverse workforce, the FBP Diversity Council has created a scholarship for local graduating seniors who will be attending a trade school, technical college, community college, or university. Two $2,000 scholarships will be awarded this year. Students must be a graduating senior from Pike, Scioto, Ross, or Jackson counties.

Woolum Scholarship

2024 Jack M. Woolum Memorial Scholarship

$2,500 per academic year for a maximum of four years ($10,000)

Jack M. Woolum was a 1966 graduate of Oak Hill High School. After high school, Mr. Woolum pursued his higher education at Franklin University earning a degree in Business. He went on to earn a Master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University and was credentialed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Mr. Woolum was employed by several large companies throughout his long career and the last fifteen years were spent employed by United States Department of Defense (DOD) and traveling the world. Mr. Woolum was a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners. He recognized the importance of education for rural youth and credited his own education with allowing him to live a life of opportunity and success. This scholarship has been established in Mr. Woolum’s honor to help another Oak Hill High School student reach for the stars.

Scholarship Eligibility: Enrollment in a four-year, accredited college or university

Selection of Scholar: Woolum Scholarship Committee  

Award Type: The scholarship will be paid directly to an institution of higher learning. The scholarship will be paid upon presentation of proof of enrollment as a full time student at a four-year college or university. Proof of enrollment must be presented annually to the Oak Hill Union Local School District Treasurer before payment is released.
