The Elks National Foundation awards 2.52 million in college scholarships to a total of 500 high school seniors nationwide through its Most Valuable Student Scholarship contest.

OU Hughes Cutler Scholarship

Leona and Lewis Hughes Ohio University Cutler Scholar Award

This is a Cutler Scholarship Year for an OHHS Senior!

4-Year Scholarship of $25,000 per year for an OHHS senior!

The Cutler Scholars Program is Ohio University’s premier merit scholarship program for students who are driven to explore how they can use their skills and interests to make a positive impact in their communities.

The Hughes Cutler Scholar for Oak Hill High School will receive a 4-year scholarship of $25,000 per year plus an additional $3,000 each summer to support travel, research, service, and professional development.  In addition to the financial award, Cutler Scholars benefit from individualized coaching, weekly seminar discussions of major social and political issues, participation in the OHIO Honors Program, and residence in our Honors & Scholars residential community.

The Cutler Scholars Program encourages any eligible student with strong intellectual curiosity and a demonstrated commitment to community engagement to apply. We do not consider standardized test scores in our selection process. Additionally, there is no minimum GPA required to apply, though successful applicants historically have possessed a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or greater on a 4.0 scale.

Eligible students can apply to the Cutler Scholars Program by completing the Ohio University Application for Admission and Scholarships via the Common Application by November 15th.  For best consideration, students should submit a full and complete Common Application, including the activities section and at least one personal essay.

Eligible students from Oak Hill High School will be sent a supplemental application via email after they have submitted the Common Application by November 15th. The supplemental application will include a few short answer essay questions and will be due in early December. The exact date will be posted as soon as it has been decided by Ohio University.

Vinton Co. Bank Acorn Scholarship

2026 Vinton County National Bank (VCNB)

Acorn Award Scholarship 

Scholarship Overview:

VCNB wishes to recognize local high school seniors in our market area who possess a commitment to their community.  Each December and April, students from each local school with eligible entries will be featured on our social media and eligible for a $500 prize based on social media followers’ participation.  Additionally, a $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to one student within the bank’s market area. Scholarship applications will be reviewed by a panel of VCNB employee judges and announced in May 2026.

Eligibility:

Current high school seniors who live in or attend high school in one of the following counties: Fairfield, Franklin, Hocking, Jackson, Licking, Pickaway, Ross, and Vinton.  Homeschool seniors are eligible if they reside in the aforementioned counties.

You do not need to be a VCNB account holder to be eligible.  Winning students are responsible for tax implications for prize money awarded. Entries must be received by November 15 or March 15 to be eligible for the corresponding semester contest. All eligible applications received between September 1, 2025 and March 15, 2026 will be considered for $5,000 scholarship. 

An eligible entry is one in which a fully answered application is received within the stated time frames by a high school senior in the VCNB eight-county market area.

Only one application will be accepted per applicant regardless of when the application is submitted. Applicants will only be eligible for social media prize within the semester they apply. Use of Artificial Intelligence or a “bot” to gain social media likes or to answer scholarship application questions will result in disqualification of applicant. 

How to enter:  Fill out the VCNB Scholarship entry form online and indicate whether you are applying for the $500 social media award, the $5,000 scholarship, or both. Applicant must submit a head shot for social media use.
