The Hagan Scholarship

The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide, need-based, merit scholarship, designed to help recipients graduate college debt free. The scholarship provides up to $7,500 each semester for up to eight consecutive semesters. Recipients who graduate college while in the Hagan Scholarship Program can apply for a Hagan Graduate Scholarship, good for up to four additional semesters in college providing up to $7,500 each semester.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Eligible students can apply regardless of nationality or citizenship.
  2. Must attend a high school located in the U.S. 
  3. Must be a student in the high school graduating class. 
  4. Must have achieved an unweighted 3.50 cumulative GPA or higher. 
  5. Must enroll in a four-year college or university, in the 2026 fall semester.  
  6. Must maintain a four year or less graduation schedule. 
  7. Must work 240 hours from January 1, 2026 until the September 1, 2026.  
  8. Parents 2024 Adjusted Gross Household Income must not have exceeded $100,000.
  9. FAFSA information is not required to apply. (Finalists must provide FAFSA information.)
  10. Must apply for Federal and State grants, if eligible.

Four-Year Full Tuition Scholarship!

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • ✓ Be ACCEPTED to the University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College for the 2026-2027 academic year
  • ✓ Attend a high school in the four county service district of Gallia, Jackson, Meigs, or Vinton (including Buckeye Hills Career Center)
  • ✓ Reside in the four county service district of Gallia, Jackson, Meigs, or Vinton ✓ Have a minimum GPA of 3.2 and a minimum ACT Composite score of 21. Superscore will not be accepted. ACT must be taken prior to application deadline.
  • Before submitting your application, prepare the following documents that will be required:
  • ✓ High school transcript and ACT Composite Score. Superscore will not be accepted. ACT must be taken prior to application deadline. (If transcript with ACT Composite Score has already been submitted by your guidance counselor, no additional copy is needed)
  • ✓ Resume, in correct resume format, listing scholastic achievements, school and community involvement, and/or employment history
  • ✓ Two (2) letters of recommendation (do not include guidance counselors)
  • ✓ Essay – Choosing one of the topics below, essay must be a maximum of two (2) typed, double spaced pages, 12-point font.
    • Topic 1: What does leadership mean to you? Describe areas in your life where you demonstrated leadership and overcame obstacles either through your school, social, or family life.
    • Topic 2: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” - Nelson Mandela. Describe how you plan to use your education to make a change in the world. Tell us about how you would plan to make that change, and what obstacles you might encounter along the way.

    • Topic 2: How do you define success? When you look back on your life in 20 years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful? How does this scholarship fit into your plans for success?
