2019 Saddle and Sirloin Dave Gerber Honorary Scholarship

$500 scholarship

The Ohio State University Saddle and Sirloin Club is the premier student organization at the College of Food Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. This highly respected livestock-oriented club offers opportunities for college students to organize livestock shows, participate in community service events, connect with industry professionals, and enjoy being around fellow animal enthusiasts all while having a great time. Through fundraising work completed by the club, we are honored to present The Saddle and Sirloin Dave Gerber Honorary Scholarship, a $500 scholarship to a deserving student.

David Gerber retired as a Professor from OSU Extension in 1995. He spent his entire career of nearly 40 years working in various Extension positions. His area of work was primarily focused on swine production and youth development. Mr. Gerber spent two years in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant after earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Sciences from OSU in 1953. David left the service and began his career in Extension in 1955, in Putnam County. In 1961 he completed his Master of Science degree in the Department of Animal Sciences. An active member of American Society of Animal Sciences, American Society of Agricultural Engineering, National and Ohio County Extension/4PH Associations and Gamma Sigma Delta Fraternity, perhaps Mr. Gerber’s favorite organization was the Saddle & Sirloin Club at OSU. He served as an advisor to the club for 12 years, leaving him tied for the longest tenure as an advisor to the largest student organization in the CFAES at OSU. He received the “Uncle” award for his services, and still contributes to the organization annually.
