Congratulations to 5th grader Ashton Sturgill for achieving 175 miles walked in the OHES Walking Oaks Club, which is sponsored by the Jackson County Health Department, Holzer Health Systems, and Atomic Employees Credit Union. The Oak Hill High School Baseball Team had a shoe drive and purchased 10 pairs of new shoes for in-need students at Oak Hill Elementary. Many thanks to these young men for being a good example of giving back to your community. February 2019

Buckeye Hills Career Center is currently accepting applications for the 2019-2020 school year. Applications are available on the Buckeye Hills website, or may be picked up from the high school guidance office. Current sophomore students can enroll in Cyber Security, Advanced Robotics Manufacturing, Computer Electronics Engineering, Building Trades, Medical Office Assisting, Early Childhood Education, Culinary Preparation, Auto Collision Technology, Heating-Ventilation-Air Conditioning, Auto Service Technology, Agriculture & Diesel Mechanics, Criminal Justice, Cosmetology, Welding, and Diversified Health Occupations. Oak Hill Band members attended the Ohio Music Education Association’s District 17 Solo and Ensemble competition at Gallia Academy High School. Students performed their music for adjudication and received two Superior and three Excellent ratings for their performances. The 2019 OHES Souper Bowl Food Drive for the Growing Oaks Food Program and the Oak Hill Food Pantry was conducted, and the students and staff collected 3,020 food items for donation. The winning class with the largest donation was Philip Malone's 5th grade class, and they won a donut party for their efforts.
The Active Acorns Winter Team had their first meeting with Krav Maga instructor Scott King as first guest. The students learned about self defense, especially that the best defense is to not to be in the situation at all! Scott has visited the Acorns six times now, and his presentations get more hands-on and more informative each time. The Active Acorns is sponsored by the Jackson County Health Department, Holzer Health Systems, and private donor Wendi Waugh. January 2019
