Congratulations to four Oak Hill Elementary students for achieving the first milestone of 25 miles walked in the 2019-2020 OHES Walking Oaks Club. Pictured (L-R) third graders Zach Swann and Ty Kanouse and fifth graders Zoey French and Charissa Krannitz. They all earned their club t-shirts for their walking efforts at school and at home. The Walking Oaks Club is sponsored by Holzer Health Systems and the Jackson County Health Department. October 2019
The Fall 2019 Active Acorns welcomed Dawn Richards from SOMC’s Community Health Department. Dawn has been coming to the Active Acorn Meetings for 5 years now, and the students always enjoy her informative and entertaining activities. At this meeting, the Acorns learned the importance of stretching and exercising, especially after extended time using electronics.
This is the 8th year for the Active Acorns Club at OHES. The 37 members of the Fall 2019 Team edition got off to an exciting start with Scott King teaching them Krav Maga self-defense. This is the fourth year Scott has visited the Active Acorns, and the students love this presentation so much. Scott does an excellent job, and the information he provides is so vital to children in today’s world.
The Oak Hill Elementary School Kick-Off Food Drive was an amazing success. OHES students and staff collected 3,539 food items for the Growing Oaks Food Program and the Oak Hill Food Pantry! Emily Woods’ class collected the most items, with 269 donated. The individual student winners each won jerseys, donated by Daniel Stewart. Student winners were (front): Rhyan Lester, Izabelle Dyer, Macelyn McManis, AJ Blue, and Dylan Harris. (Back): Blazden Boggs, Luke Johnson, Colton Perry, Blaise Barger, and Ryleigh Little.
