Active, Active Acorns!

AA nov15The Active Acorns White Stripe Team welcomed fitness instructor Deb Adkins to its November 12th meeting. Deb had the Acorns Zumba dancing, as well as instructed them on wellness and empowerment techniques. The students enjoyed the lessons, and they "felt the burn" after the meeting was over.

25-Mile Achievement

kaydee woc15Congratulations to 5th grade student Kaydee Johnson for reaching the first milestone in the OHES Walking Oaks Club. Kaydee walked 25 miles at recess and at home and received the club t-shirt for her efforts. The Walking Oaks Club is open to all students in grades 3-5 and is co-sponsored by the Jackson County Health Department and Southern Ohio Medical Center. Great job, Kaydee!

SOMC Visits Active Acorns

AA somc oct15SOMC Community Wellness Nurse Dawn Richards, RN visited the October meeting of the Active Acorns Black Stripe Team. She discussed several wellness topics, including healthy food choices, the importance of exercise, the avoidance of tobacco products, and relaxation techniques to help cope with stress. The members enjoyed her presentation very much, especially the deep breathing and relaxation technique demonstration.

Fire Prevention Week at OHES

fire prevent15Oak Hill Elementary School had a great day practicing fire prevention, and would like to thank the fire fighters who donated their time to spend the day with our students. You are greatly appreciated!

"Soup-er Friday"

soup15 2Oak Hill Elementary's 4th Annual "Soup-er Friday" to kick-off the 2015-2016 school wellness programs was a huge success. Students were encouraged to wear sports-themed shirts and bring in cans of soup to donate to the Growing Oaks Food Program and Oak Hill Food Pantry. There were 1,556 cans of soup collected, with Kirstin Leonard's 2nd grade class winning the classroom pizza party with 212 cans collected. Individual winners for participation were (L-R): Amarybee McCain, Marley Daft, Melanie Shepherd, Gregory Engle, Zoe Smith, and Mason Martin. Great job OHE students, parents, and staff!
