The Oak Hill FFA Chapter participated in the State Meats Judging Contest on April 26th, 2014. At the Ohio State Meat Lab, the six freshmen contestants judged lamb, beef, and pork carcasses along with two classes of retail for each of the species. Along with judging the classes and placing them, these students had to identify 40 retail cuts and answer questions about the meat judging industry. Once the results were posted, the Oak Hill FFA Chapter scored 15th out of over 300 FFA Chapters. After a good experience of going through the training and competition, all of the competitors plan to gain more knowledge and be better prepared for next year’s competition. We would like to express our appreciation to R & C Packing for teaching and assisting with our Meat Judging Team this year, and look forward to working together for many years to come.
