Oak Hill Elementary School is one of 37 schools being recognized by the Ohio Department of Education for improving academic achievement among their students, including many from economically disadvantaged homes.

High Progress Schools of Honor score in the top 10 percent of schools as ranked by gains in reading and mathematics combined proficiency in all tested grades for the past five years. They also are in the top 10 percent for gains in graduation rate during the past five years.  The department also considers Adequate Yearly Progress, Value-Added measures of student growth and Local Report Card ratings when determining award selection.

acorns dec13For their December 2013 meeting, the Oak Hill Elementary Active Acorns Fitness Club welcomed James McLaughlin of the J3A Jui-Jitsu & Fitness Academy in Jackson.  Mr. Laughlin taught the students several Jui-Jitsu moves, as well as spoke of the importance of healthy lifestyles.

plate poster dec13As part of the "From the Farm to the Plate" educational unit recently completed at OHES, Fuel Up to Play 60 Program Advisor Alicia Kamer sponsored a poster contest with the theme "How Farmers Feed the World."  One hundred nine students in grades preschool through 5 participated, and the Oak Hill McDonalds generously donated free dessert coupons to each participant.  Pictured (L-R) are preschool winner Tess Karshner, Grades K-1 winner Walker Fowble, Grades 2-3 winner Levi Fields, and Grades 4-5 winner Abby Lewis.  Winners received a free Oak Hill t-shirt of their choice, donated by Robin Slone at Oak Hill Sports N More.

FFA1 OHES NOV13FFA2 OHES NOV13FFA3 OHES NOV13As part of OHE's Fuel Up to Play 60 Program's "From the Farm to the Plate" educational unit, Program Advisor Alicia Kamer invited the OHHS FFA Club to come do a presentation for grades 3-5.  FFA Advisor Matt Bennett and 16 FFA members did a lesson on vegetables, dairy, and whole grains which the OHE students greatly enjoyed.  Pictured in the first photo is FFA member Devin Coon discussing the importance of dairy products.  In the second photo are FFA members Kayla McNeal, Jenna Spees, and Allison McGlone guiding the students in an interactive activity, and in the third photo is FFA member Kelsey Gaines, instructing the students on the importance of vegetables in their diets.
