Third Grade Achievers

study island dec13At its December 2013 meeting, the Board of Education recognized several third grade students for their Study Island Achievement.  Pictured standing (L-R) are Jada Reese, Haley Ratliff, Reagan Michael, Amelia Michael, Kaydee Johnson, Levi Fields, Macy Bell, and Ashtan Adkins.  Also recognized, but not pictured, were Aiden Hall and Gavin Howell.  Congratulating the students are (back, L-R) board president Aaron Michael, board member Mike French, district treasurer Rhonda Harrison, and board member Regina Boggs.

CareSource Donates

gr oaks caresource dec13The Oaks United Growing Oaks Food Program received a $5000 grant from CareSource, which will enable Oaks United to continue serving students in the district.

Active Acorns Poster Contest

fitnessposter dec13The Active Acorns After-school Fitness Club had a recent poster contest entitled "Merry Fit-Mas" for its members.  The winners of the contest were (L-R): Emily Doss, Camryn Kirby, Jada Reese, Adam Kamer, and Garrett McNerlin.  Great job Active Acorns!

OHES Recognized by ODE

Oak Hill Elementary School is one of 37 schools being recognized by the Ohio Department of Education for improving academic achievement among their students, including many from economically disadvantaged homes.

High Progress Schools of Honor score in the top 10 percent of schools as ranked by gains in reading and mathematics combined proficiency in all tested grades for the past five years. They also are in the top 10 percent for gains in graduation rate during the past five years.  The department also considers Adequate Yearly Progress, Value-Added measures of student growth and Local Report Card ratings when determining award selection.

Active Acorns December

acorns dec13For their December 2013 meeting, the Oak Hill Elementary Active Acorns Fitness Club welcomed James McLaughlin of the J3A Jui-Jitsu & Fitness Academy in Jackson.  Mr. Laughlin taught the students several Jui-Jitsu moves, as well as spoke of the importance of healthy lifestyles.

Farm to Plate Poster Winners

plate poster dec13As part of the "From the Farm to the Plate" educational unit recently completed at OHES, Fuel Up to Play 60 Program Advisor Alicia Kamer sponsored a poster contest with the theme "How Farmers Feed the World."  One hundred nine students in grades preschool through 5 participated, and the Oak Hill McDonalds generously donated free dessert coupons to each participant.  Pictured (L-R) are preschool winner Tess Karshner, Grades K-1 winner Walker Fowble, Grades 2-3 winner Levi Fields, and Grades 4-5 winner Abby Lewis.  Winners received a free Oak Hill t-shirt of their choice, donated by Robin Slone at Oak Hill Sports N More.
