AA mar16 6On March 11, forty-six members of the OHES Active Acorns Club traveled to Southern Ohio Gymnastics Academy in Gallipolis for their annual field trip. Also attending the trip were Club Advisor/OHES Nurse Alicia Kamer, OHES teacher Josie Howard, and parent volunteer Meela Johnson. Students enjoyed the variety of gymnastic equipment available, such as pommel horses, trampolines, and the foam pit. Many thanks to SOGA for a fun experience for the students.

AA feb16 3The Active Acorns Black Stripe Team welcomed Scott King, a local Krav Maga instructor, to its February meeting. Krav Maga is Israeli self-defense training based on reflexive actions to threatening situations. The students enjoyed a slideshow of Scott's time in Iraq and Afghanistan, then were taught different Krav Maga techniques. The students enjoyed Scott's presentation and learning the techniques very much.

soup16 1The 4th annual OHES "Soup-er Bowl" was a super success! A total of 1,634 cans of soup were collected and donated to the Growing Oaks Food Program and Oak Hill Food Pantry. Students from the OHHS Vo-Ag Program assisted Growing Oaks volunteers in food collection. The two classroom winners for most cans collected were Miss Leonard's 2nd grade class and Mr. Persin's 5th grade class. Individual winners were (L-R): Matthias Comer-Wolfe, Dylan Cox, Chase Frye, Christian Burcham, William Strickland, Austin Evans, and Lexie Kelley. Winners not pictured were Jacob Allen and Kaiden Davis. Staff participation winners were Brandy Harris and Jarin Penwell. Great job, OHES!

active acornsfeb16Todd Crabtree, founder of the Seishin Ryoku Aikido School, visited the OHES Active Acorns White Stripe Team meeting to teach the Acorns various Aikido techniques. This is the fourth year Todd has visited an Active Acorns meeting, and as always, the members enjoyed his presentation very much. Pictured are members Emma Dugan and Brian Radabaugh practicing some of the skills demonstrated.
